Vern's level of service and knowledge was outstanding. He provided a road bike with pump, pedals, and helmet. He dropped off an additional pump to help out. He provided GPS routes and he picked the bike up. I will be renting with him again.
I would thoroughly recommend Vern! He provided us with two very nice e-bikes for the day which were all set to go when we arrived and were in excellent condition. He was super helpful, talked us through the route he had planned for us, which was just as we had requested...... perfect distance, great views for miles and a very nice lunch stop at How Stean Gorge. Was great. I needed to hire a bike for an event due to mine being repaired. A quick phone call and had arrange to hire one and manage to pick it up next day. Drop off was Great to. I got stuck in traffic and he was accommodating and still managed to drop it off with no issue.
Hired electric bikes last week for our friends 60th and Vern dropped them off at our Airbnb was very prompt and helpful issuing a map and all the gear hats and bike locks . He was also very helpful and informative the weeks building up to our bike hire answering any questions we needed .Nothing was too much trouble bikes were fully charged and very good quality . Had an amazing time cycling around the nidderdale cycle way ..we had a full day out .Our bikes were collected as agreed on time . Service with a smile . Great chap.! Can highly recommend. Would definitely use again . faultless !
Great experience renting a bike from Vern. Was looking for a road bike for a multi-day tour of the Yorkshire Dales and Vern was able to provide me with a Trek Emonde SL5 disc in prime condition. Communication was very easy too. Can absolutely recommend and will probably rent here again myself.

We had a great experience with Vern. He was very kind and friendly. He accommodated our request for five gravel bikes at short notice and was very flexible and relaxed about pick up and drop off times. Communication and booking was incredibly prompt and straightforward. The bikes themselves were high quality and well maintained and enabled us to enjoy a tremendous day out taking in some gorgeous lanes and vistas as well as few challenging hills to feel smug about after - it was a highlight of our holiday!

We hired three EBikes from Vern for our cycling trip round some of the Yorkshire dales. Vern was extremely helpful in ensuring we handled the bikes in the correct manner.
Bikes were in a well maintained condition and we certainly felt safe with the disc brakes for coming down some steep declines.

We hired two Marin DSX bicycles from Vern to do a 5-day cycling tour in, around, up, and down the Dales, and will highly recommend VOC! Vern was very responsive in answering our pre-trip questions. He was flexible and accommodating in providing us with equipment that we could not bring overseas (helmets, lock, pump, multi-tool, puncture kit, and pedal spanner), and in meeting us at the start and end points of our tour. The bikes themselves were in great condition: almost new, and well maintained. They were a pleasure to ride, and we had no mechanical issues with them at all. Their disc brakes were a must for the steep Dales, especially in the rain.
All perfect. I hired a trek Emonda for a week and it arrived in perfect condition and well maintained. Vern offers perfect service also with the e-bikes for my family.

I booked a full bike service for my very neglected bike. From the start Vern's communication was excellent, and he came to my house to personally collect the bike. He communicated throughout the service with what the bike needed, to check I was happy to proceed, and completed the service ahead of schedule. He delivered it back looking like new!
When the bike needed a tweak after a few weeks, he was very quick to come and sort it.

Can’t fault Vern and his service. Myself and 5 friends were visiting Harrogate for the weekend. I contacted Vern about hiring bike. He got back to me really quickly answering all of my queries. He delivered our bikes to us at the accommodation.. super condition bikes.. they looked new. All had safety helmet and came with puncture repair kits. We were supplied with a possible route, bike locks and a pump. After a lovely day cycling in the rare sunshine we called Vern Knaresborough for a pick up in approx 40mins and we couldn’t have timed it better. Having injured my back I needed my Giant Road bike converting to a flat bar. Vern did an amazing job and wherever possible used stock (2nd hand) parts to keep the cost down. 5 star service from a 5 star fella!

My wife and I rented two bikes for a week and it couldn’t have been any better. The bikes where in excellent condition, almost new, well adjusted and ready to go. We had no mechanical issues during any of our rides (which added to more than 600Km). Vern was very kind since the very beginning in every way possible: he agreed to meet at the time we needed to collect the bikes (and we were late :-( ), he lended us some stuff we hadn’t brought from Mexico, and even gave us two new water bottles as a gift! He is a very experienced rider himself and gave us a lot of advice regarding riding on and off the roads in UK and even suggested some areas to visit in the park. We are very happy with the service and highly recommend this very professional company. Also, we highly recommend visiting the Yorkshire Dales on bike, just make sure you plan ahead your rides and chose a geographically adequate place as your base (we decided on Ilkley which is a very charming town and close to many cycle circuits and hiking routes).

We have just had the most wonderful family day, riding the Nidderdale Greenway Cycle track! All thanks to Vern from Vern Overton Cycling! From the moment we contacted Vern, he supplied us with all the information and recommendations for booking 4 mountain bikes for our family day out in Harrogate, Ripley and Knaresborough! Super helpful in making recommendations and the bikes were in superb condition, supplied with maps, spare inner tubes, locks - everything you would need for a day out riding! I had a tremendous day’s riding (90km) around Harrogate on a bike from Vern. Road bike was perfect and Vern helped out with a lift to the Wellington Inn for a post-ride beer.
I contacted Vern to do a full service on two of my bikes, Both specialized, an ageing Rockhopper mountain bike and a sirrus hybrid used for commuting, both were both showing a bit of age mechanically! Vern was very friendly and professional when arranging the service and for a small fee agreed to pick up the bikes, There was no hurry I pointed out as I used another bike in the meantime but both were done after a few days, Vern did a written report of any issues found and any work carried out as well as brake pad wear which was really useful. Vern dropped the bikes off and I took them both for a little test ride. Well it was like riding brand new bikes (war scars still there) they were so clean and everything felt just right, nice and tight, gear change smooth. Cant thank Vern enough and will do my best to recommend him to friends and family.

I needed an e-bike for a long week-end and Vern very efficiently replied to my messages and then delivered a good ebike in perfect condition to the hotel, even before I arrived, and also picked it up after. Very good service. Of course I had to pay for the delivery, but that's normal.

Can't say enough the positive experience dealing with Vern. I contacted numerous bike rental agencies in the area looking for a small 47cm carbon road bike to no avail. Vern didn't have one either but he actually purchased a 47cm frame and built it for me. Unbelievable, what service! ! He also provided us some routes and was very responsive when we had an issue. The riding is amazing and challenging in the Dales with lots of punchy 18-25% climbs. Highly, highly recommend Vern Overton Cycling!
Found Vern online and organised a bike hire from overseas. It was easily organised and once on holiday collected the bike with no issues. The bike was low spec but in good condition and well maintained. Vern was helpful and knowledgeable and I strongly recommend his services.

I hired a road bike from Vern Overton to do the 2021 Struggle Dales sportive as I was concerned my road bike was not geared low enough for the 6 climbs on this event. Vern provided an immaculate (Trek Emonda with Shimano 105) bike that rode all day on some stunning terrain without the hint of a glitch. Easy to organise. Thank you
This review is long overdue! My wife and I visited Yorkshire this past July. I was fortunate enough to have a friend take me on a beautiful yet sometimes grueling 104 mile ride through the Dales. I was also fortunate in my choice of Vern Overton Cycling for my bike rental. Their bikes and service are top notch! I met Mr. Overton twice once on delivery and then on pick-up...great guy! I highly recommend this shop!

We used Vern’s bike hire in October 2020 (sorry for such a belated review, Vern!) and the service was fantastic. Flexible pickup/drop-off times, great price and invaluable route advice. He even came into Harrogate to help us work the gears after we’d picked up the bikes and headed off!
We rented 4 bikes from Vern for a couple of days. The bikes and delivery/collection service were excellent. Vern was also really flexible with timings and was very willing to share his local knowledge to advise us of appropriate MTB routes. Highly recommended.

Vern is a legend. We were staying in Otley where there were no options for renting mountain bikes. Luckily Vern saved the day by providing us with bikes within an hour of calling. 1 day was spent in Stainburn forest and the other in Armscliffe crag. The bikes and service made our stay in otley. I needed a bike at the last minute and none of the local bike shops could help me out. I called Vern and he couldn't have been more accommodating. He was good enough to drop the bike at my mates house as i was at work. When it was time to leave the back Vern offered to collect the bike as he was coming into town. I hired a Trek road bike and it was brilliant. Id highly recommend Vern and wouldn't hesitate to use again.

We cycled the Way of the Roses with our adult children and some friends. We had been struggling to put together bike rental, bike transport and baggage forwarding, but after contacting Vern, found he could do it all and at a better price than separate providers. He was always prompt in his responses when we were planning and had lots of very useful suggestions. His equipment, which included carbon fiber Trek road bikes, helmets, locks and repair kits was all first rate. He met us as planned the first morning, right on time, and dropped our bags before our arrival at our hotels along the way. He adjusted the bikes to fit us, offered our choice of pedal type and even did a tune up along the way. It was clear that he really cared about our experience and about the service he offers and his knowledge of cycling comes from personal experience. I would very highly recommend Vern for anyone considering a trip like ours across the UK.

We couldn't be happier with how well we were treated when hiring bikes from Vern. We were able to book bikes on the same day, and he delivered and collected them for us at our desired location. In the initial exchanges Vern had been very helpful, bike was ordered and paid for straight away.
On the day of the pick up there was a slight mix up, which was my fault but all sorted out. Vern said I was actually hiring his old bike, it was a very nice model.
Great day out, didn’t cycle too far but that was my legs if I had been able to I could have cycled all day.

Vern rented us 25 bikes and was unbelievable throughout! He sorted a route, adapted plans, found an electric bike for one person. My former coworker and long time bike partner and I recently completed the Way of The Roses on bikes supplied by Vern Overton Cycling. Quite simply, I can't say enough good things about our experience with Vern. First, the equipment is top notch (high quality Trek hybrids), beautifully maintained.
But where the experience really rose to amazing levels was in Vern's attitude and willingness to go the extra mile (or twenty) to support and encourage us. For months before the trip, I exchanged emails with Vern about the trip, equipment, attractions, lodging, and on and on -- truly endless details. He never failed to respond promptly and helpfully.
You must understand we are retired men in our 70s and only fair weather bikers. Once we arrived and met Vern, I'm sure he realized (as we soon did) that we did not know what we were undertaking. Vern followed our progress and supported and encouraged us with texts and emails full of helpful suggestions and cheering congratulations on our progress.
Once when we had a damage problem with one of the bikes, Vern drove miles to attempt repair, then substituted another bike, drove us to the next planned stop and stayed with us when we had trouble locating a room!
Well, I could go on and on to the same effect. Suffice it to say, you could not wish for better service or a better person to deal with than Vern Overton Cycling. If I am ever back in his area I would not even think of going to any other service.

This review is way overdue - but i want to say that Vern went out of his way (literally) to deliver the bike to me at Harogate Station and pick i up after my week of cycling. The bikes were in top condition, reasonably priced, and Vern helped us out with route planning too. Highly recommend.

Booked to ride a sportive in Thirsk, N. York’s but was without a bike after an accident & left with little prospect of hiring a road bike to be able to take part. Then we found Vern on a web search. Spoke to him briefly over the phone and then completed everything by e mail and txt. Nothing was too much trouble for Vern who delivered the bike to me, fitted my pedals and all was good to go. Completed my sportive the following day and the bike was great to ride. I phoned Vern to see if I could change the day of return for the bike which was no trouble at all and I received a refund which was unexpected. Vern contacted me after dropping off the bike to say I had left a piece of personal equipment on the bike and would post to me which I received the following day. Overall very impressive service from Vern who was a pleasure to talk to who provides an excellent service.
